The California Dermatology Advocacy Network (CDAN) is proud to highlight community-based dermatologic initiatives that demonstrate the impact of dermatology beyond the clinic and into the communities we serve.

Melanoma is a potentially fatal disease that is largely preventable. AIM at Melanoma raises awareness of preventive measures; provides support for patients, caregivers, and survivors; and funds critical research—all to end melanoma in our lifetime. AIM is dedicated to fighting the world’s deadliest skin cancer, melanoma.

The California Firefighter Skin Cancer Coalition is a dermatologist-led initiative focused on skin cancer prevention, awareness, and access to expert dermatologic care for firefighters in California, a population at elevated risk due to occupational sun exposure and environmental hazards.
Firefighters face significantly increased rates of melanoma and other skin cancers. Board-certified dermatologists play a critical role in early detection, prevention, and the safe, evidence-based treatment of skin cancer in this high-risk population.

CDAN believes dermatology advocacy in California is strongest when paired with meaningful community engagement, public-facing impact, and physician leadership grounded in real-world patient care.
By fostering partnerships with local health organizations, community leaders, and fellow medical professionals, CDAN amplifies this collective impact, ensuring that no community is left without the dermatologic resources and awareness it deserves.
At its core, community is about showing up for one another, and dermatology is no exception. Healthy skin is not a privilege reserved for those with access to specialized care; it is a fundamental part of overall well-being that every person deserves. When we invest in the health of our communities, we invest in their futures, their health, and their quality of life. CDAN believes that the strength of our field is not measured solely by clinical advances, but by the lives we are able to touch, empower, and protect.
