The California Dermatology Advocacy Network (CDAN) is proud to highlight community-based dermatologic initiatives that demonstrate the impact of dermatology beyond the clinic and into the communities we serve.
One such effort is the California Firefighter Skin Cancer Coalition, a dermatologist-led initiative focused on skin cancer prevention, awareness, and access to expert dermatologic care for firefighters in California, a population at elevated risk due to occupational sun exposure and environmental hazards.
Firefighters face significantly increased rates of melanoma and other skin cancers. Board-certified dermatologists play a critical role in early detection, prevention, and the safe, evidence-based treatment of skin cancer in this high-risk population.
CDAN believes dermatology advocacy in California is strongest when paired with meaningful community engagement, public-facing impact, and physician leadership grounded in real-world patient care.
